Project Summary
Jovic Systems Corporation is a full-service collection agency. Jovic had
been using a custom dos-based legacy system to manage the collections and
reporting process for 10+ years. This system was not Y2K compliant and rather
than go with a canned package it was decided to rewrite a new browser-based
custom system that could be administered over an in-house network or remotely.
Three main challenges were: 1) a six-month window to complete the entire system,
including conversion of the existing data, 2) the client insisted that the new
system "look and behave" exactly like the legacy system, which in turn
eliminated the need for hours of user re-training, and 3) reproducing complex
browser-based financial reports.
TNP did a detailed process analysis of the legacy application to be duplicated
into a web-based environment and developed a data conversion plan from DataEase
into SQL Server 7.0.
DHTML positioning is used to achieve screen layouts that mimicked the screens in
Jovic’s legacy dos system. DHTML was also used to produce complex transactional
screen processing with multiple browser windows open.
VBscript on the client is used to handle dynamic DHTML positioning, user
interaction, business rules validations and XML data island processing.
Active Server Pages and extensive SQL Server stored procedure work and triggers
was used to handle system processing, core backend business logic, and to provide
the interface and data for Crystal Web Reports.
